The Kahanoff Centre, The Calgary Foundation and Decidedly Jazz Danceworks worked in partnership to develop an 11 story expansion to the existing Kahanoff Centre, the project provides four floors of state of the art Performing Arts Academy for DJD topped with seven floors of office space leased to a variety of charitable organizations including the United Way, Calgary Counselling Centre and the Calgary Foundation. The first four floors are fully glazed to provide views to the activities of the Dance Centre. The view will change according to the activities scheduled at the Academy and in the community spaces on the ground floor. These fully glazed spaces are designed to act as “living billboards” or “light boxes” to display and celebrate the activities at DJD. The street level pedestrian zone is enhanced and activated with a colourful internally lit entry portal marking the front entrance to the Performing Arts Academy.
