Banff Centre- Kinnear Centre

Location: Banff, AB

Completion: 2010

Architect: Diamond + Schmitt with Gibbs Gage

The largest and most dramatic element of the Banff Centre’s Campus Redevelopment project is the Kinnear Centre building. This building occupies some 8,160 m2 and provides the Centre’s participants and guests with a new hub for cultural, social and learning activities. The programme functions within the complex include a total of 19 classroom and multi-purpose meeting spaces, a new library and archival storage spaces, a 150 seat bistro and lounge, kitchen and food storage spaces, shipping/receiving/storage spaces and a three level open galleria for gathering, pre-function and artwork display. In advance of new construction commencing, the scope of this project also included significant utility and infrastructure relocations below an existing roadway that was ultimately terminated in two locations. This project was completed over a period of 30 months and was built to LEED Silver specifications.
